From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.
Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Questers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
