The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
